by Mike George The Bush administration's policy of preemptive war on Iraq had precious little to do with the War on Terror, and everything to do with a policy of military adventurism, to support the best interests of multinational oil, and enforce a "Pax Americana" over the peoples of the Middle East. Today Bush, Cheeney, John McCain and the Republican Party remain out of touch with mainstream American values of peace and prosperity, out-of-step with the world community, and out to lunch on the US economy, education, and energy conservation. As the ranks of the unemployed swell, wealthy Republican constituents reward Bush's tax potlatch, that McCain would make permanent, with fat cat campaign contributions. When Bush lied to hype his administration's costly preemptive war with Iraq, he placed ideological fanaticism over the simple truth, and sacrificed the trust of the people. He concealed the truth that didn't fit conveniently into preconceived neoconcervative notions about Iraq and the Middle East. They have knowingly sacrificed the lives of American service men and women, while stretching our national guard forces, not to mention the federal budget deficit to the vanishing point, in a fiscally irresponsible binge into decades of international nation-building--that given the most optimistic read on events. While Bush prepared the nation for his war, he chose to conceal the interim report on 911 for over a year? Was it because the findings did not support a strike against Iraq, a conclusion which would not fit his and Paul Wolfowitz's plans for war or arms dealer Richard Perle's shady business ventures? Before the war President Bush stated in no uncertain terms that there was incontrovertible evidence of a clear and immanent threat to the United States, from Saddam's stockpiles of nuclear, biological and/or chemical weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. When in fact there were no such weapons to persist in believing otherwise strains credulity. To the contrary, the facts suggest that Bush misled Congress and the American people, to gain approval, as he hyped his case for war, hyped the notion of seeking and then forming a so-called "broad, multilateral coalition, i.e., Great Britain and a few other mineature contingents (i.e., the coalition of the billing) while playing down the multi-billion dollar price tag. After all, they had been in the process of looting the Treasury for tax breaks to their wealthy constituents for years, in exchange for campaign contributions; (And Mccain is sinking down the same old worn out rut!!!)all instead of taking the time to gain full international support, and plan the post war efforts. The entire dreadful episode was politically calculated by this Republican administration from the get go! Must
America now win the peace in Iraq by enduring a war started Our courageous American service men and women, give their lives and shed their blood daily in escalating urban guerrilla warfare. They give their best to serve the US, and have our total support, our admiration and perhaps most importantly our thoughts and our prayers every day. At this moment, while our President again misleads the nation about the occupation and the lack of a viable exit strategy, our sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, grandsons and granddaughters continue to risk and give their lives for Bush's "Showdown with Saddam." Must America now win the peace in Iraq? Bush started this war with no idea of how it would be brought to an end. And for over a year now, Bush has rejected the help of the UN or any NATO peacekeeping force. As Ambassador Joseph Wilson noted in the Bill Moyers interview before the war, when opposing leaders, a demagogue and a populist, struggle to build support, they inevitably define themselves by their enemies. Take a wild guess as to who that might be! Order must be restored, leaders must emerge from a violent and tribal people, guns, , bombs, ammo, unexploded ordinance, tribal and religious factions and all--in a process that according to Wilson, given the most benign conditions will be extremely difficult to foster. The clash of cultures--that the Bush administration was set on waging--while broadening and lengthening the occupation of that country, will certainly be years if not decades in duration. We must bring the UN in and our troops home. This is what Dennise Kucinich has been saying for months. (And Barack Obama's plan to bring our troops home in 16 months now appears immanent). War was no substitute for consummate and innovative international diplomacy. At Kyoto Governor Bush thumbed his nose at the Earth's environment and gobal worming. He backed our country all right, right out of the World Court. He has engaged in name calling the leaders of North Korea and Iran as an "axis of evil', yet has failed to explain the meaning of the term. Today his administration threatens Syria and Iran with yet another round of inept and arrogant diplomacy. And while the quagmire of political upheaval may still escalate across Iraq borders into the region at large, our list of endless enemies grows even longer, compliments of this appointed leader and his cabal of neoconcervative brainards in Washington, DC. The Bush administration may be inept and irresponsible in many respects, but they seem to be very good --like the ENRON executives who funded their campaign in 2000--at misrepresenting facts to gain support for all manner of ill-advised and extreme agendas. Dump Republicans in 2008! Across the Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (fyi:
written in the months leading up to the 2006 election! I edited it a little
here and there i.e., the parts concerning John McCain.) YES
